Radon is a known Group 1 lung carcinogen, second only to smoking as the leading cause of lung cancer. All homes have some level of radon. In Montgomery County Maryland 35% of homes have radon levels in excess of the EPA's recommended action level. In Frederick county that number is 58%.

Only pancreatic cancer has a lower survival rate than lung cancer.
